Melinda's Tops Tabasco 2 to 1 In Chile Head Taste Test
Provided by www.melindas.com
New Orleans - While the chile head faithful continues to debate which sauce sampled at last month's National Fiery Foods & Barbecue show was hottest, there is no question about which they found most flavorful. The 839 attendees who took the "Chile Challenge" at the show overwhelmingly chose Melinda's Original Habanero Pepper Sauce as a more flavorful sauce over competing brand Tabasco in a blind taste test.
The results break out as follows:
• 68 percent chose Melinda's as the more flavorful sauce
• 67 percent said Melinda's would go better with food
• 66 percent chose Melinda's as their favorite sauce
The "Chile Challenge" was conducted at a booth at the Fiery Foods Show in Albuquerque on March 7-9, 2003. Participants were asked to taste samples of pepper sauces marked 'A' and 'B' and then to write their reactions to specific questions.
"For years, fans of Melinda's Habanero Sauces had been telling us that they chose our products because of the big flavors," said Greg Figueroa, CEO of Figueroa Brothers. "So, we put it to the test and asked people which style of sauce they prefer. I view it as a triumph of more balanced and intriguing vegetable-based sauces over the traditional vinegar-based sauce. People want flavor as well as heat, and I think that's why they picked Melinda's at a two to one rate."
